LES CARACTERISTIQUES PRINCIPALES DE L'HYDROGEOTECHNIQUE
AFTER EMPHASIZING THE ROLE OF WATER IN HYDROGEOTECHNICS, THE AUTHOR RECALLS THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF SOIL HYDRAULICS: CONCEPT OF PRESSURE, DARCY LAW, METHODS OF STUDYING FLOWS, SOLUTION TO THE LAPLACE EQUATION, SIMULATION. A STUDY IS PRESENTED OF THE MECHANICAL EFFECT OF WATER ON THE SOIL, NOTIONS OF EFFECTIVE STRESSES AND FLOW FORCES AND DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SHORT- AND LONG-TERM BEHAVIOUR OF THE SOIL. THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HYDROGEOTECHNICS AND HYDROGEOLOGY ARE STRESSES: STUDY OF PRESSURES AND NOT OF FLOW; ROLE OF HETEROGENEITY AND THREE DIMENSIONS; IMPORTANCE OF ANISOTROPY; STUDY OF WATER TABLES AND THEIR LOWERING IN HIGHLY HETEROGENEOUS TERRAIN WITH LOW PERMEABILITY, ETC.
