ROCK SLOPES
LES TALUS ROCHEUX
DISORDERS CAN OCCUR IN ROCK SLOPES ON A LARGE SCALE, AND THEY ARE GENERALLY DIFFICULT TO CURE. THE FAILURE OF ROCK MASSES IS ALWAYS RELATED TO THE PRESENCE OF DISCONTINUITIES. THE ANALYSIS OF THE STABILITY OF A ROCK MASS IS BASED ON: (1) A STRUCTURAL STUDY, THE OBJECT OF WHICH IS TO SHOW THE DISCONTINUITIES AND THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF POTENTIAL FAILURE; (2) THE DETERMINATION OF THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DISCONTINUITY SURFACES; (3) THE DEFINITION OF THE MOST SEVERE HYDRODYNAMIC CONDITIONS. THERE ARE TWO IMPORTANT TYPES OF FAILURE: ROCK FALLS AND LANDSLIDES.
