MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF EXPANDED CLAY CONCRETE SUBJECTED TO BIAXIAL TENSILE STRESSES

COMPORTEMENT MECANIQUE DU BETON D'ARGILE EXPANSEE EN TRACTION BIAXIALE

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A NEW DEVICE FOR APPLYING TENSILE LOADS TO CONCRETE SAMPLES WITH A VIEW TO EXPERIMENTALLY STUDYING EXPANDED CLAY CONCRETE UNDER BIAXIAL TENSILE STRESS CONDITIONS. THE MEASUREMENT OF TOTAL RESIDUAL DEFORMATIONS SHOWS THAT THE MOST EXTENSIVE DISORDERS IN THE CONCRETE STRUCTURE OCCUR IN THE DIRECTION OF THE MAJOR STRESS APPLIED. THE REVERSIBILITY LIMIT STATES OF CRACKING AND FAILURE OF THE SAMPLES ARE OBTAINED FOR THE MAIN MAJOR STRESS VALUE WHICH IS PRACTICALLY INDEPENDENT OF THE MAIN INTERMEDIARY STRESS VALUE.
