STUDY OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF PILES BY THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD INFLUENCE OF THE DILATANCY OF THE MEDIUM
ETUDE DE LA CAPACITE PORTANTE DES PIEUX PAR LA METHODE DES ELEMENTS FINIS - INFLUENCE DE LA DILATANCE DU MILIEU.
A FINITE ELEMENT GRID IS PRESENTED WHICH IS USED FOR THE STUDY OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF DEEP FOUNDATIONS. THE RESULTS FOR A RIGID PILE IN AN ELASTIC MEDIUM AND IN A DILATANT MEDIUM ARE COMPARED. THE DILATANCY, INTRODUCED BY A METHOD OF INITIAL LOADING, WHICH ADDS A VARIATION TO THE ORIGINAL VOLUME, DOES NOT MODIFY GREATLY THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE PILE ITSELF, BUT ITS INFLUENCE ON THE SOIL MASS IS IMPORTANT. IN A GENERAL FASHION, LOADING RESULTS IN SHEAR OF THE SOIL.
