STRUCTURAL CONCRETE MODELS IN AUSTRALIA
THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE ECONOMIC FACTORS GOVERNING THE CHOICE OF MODEL ANALYSIS FOR A PRELIMINARY FEASIBILITY STUDY, AS THE SOLE BASIS OF STRUCTURAL DESIGN, AND AS A SUPPLEMENTARY METHOD FOR VERIFYING AN APPROXIMATE ANALYSIS. IT IS NOTED THAT THE CURRENT AUSTRALIAN CONCRETE CODE PERMITS DESIGN BASED ON MODEL ANALYSIS WITHOUT SUPPLEMENTARY CALCULATIONS. FIVE AUSTRALIAN EXAMPLES OF MODEL ANALYSIS ARE THEN DESCRIBED IN DETAIL, AND A FURTHER FOUR ARE DESCRIBED BRIEFLY. THE BUILDINGS RANGE FROM ONE COSTING SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS TO THOSE COSTING A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS, AND FROM MULTISTORY BUILDINGS TO SINGLE CELL SHELL STRUCTURES. /ACI/
