MODEL STUDY OF ANCHOR BOLT DEVELOPMENT FACTORS
FIVE DRILLED SHAFT PIER MODELS, EACH HAVING TWO ANCHOR BOLTS, WERE TESTED TO VERIFY SCALE EFFECTS IN A COMBINED ANCHORAGE STRESS CONDITION. A GEOMETRIC SCALE FACTOR OF EIGHT WAS ADOPTED AS A PRACTICAL MINIMUM. THE FAILURE PATTERNS AND GENERAL BEHAVIOR WERE VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE OF WELL DOCUMENTED FULL SIZE PROTOTYPE SPECIMENS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT REDUCED SCALE MODELS COULD BE EFFECTIVELY USED IN ANCHORAGE STUDIES INVOLVING COMPLEX COMBINED STRESS CONDITIONS IF SEVERAL FULL SIZE SPECIMENS ARE ALSO TESTED. /ACI/
