EXAMPLES OF NEW DESIGN IN STEEL BRIDGES THAT HAVE RESULTED IN GREATER ECONOMY THROUGH USE OF CONTINUOUS GIRDERS AND BEAMS, AND STEEL PLATE FLOORS ARE CITED. THE LIFE OF STEEL STRUCTURES IS PLACED AT NOT LESS THAN 100 YEARS IF THE STEEL IS MAINTAINED BY PERIODIC PAINTING. COSTS FOR PAINTING ARE PRESENTED.
