USE OF BINDER CONTAINING A RADIO-ACTIVE TRACER FOR THE STUDY OF SPREADING
UTILISATION D'UN LIANT MARQUE PAR UN RADIO-ELEMENT POUR L'ETUDE DES EPANDAGES
THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES THE RESULTS OF 82 NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTS CARRIED OUT ON 44 EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS OF SURFACE DRESSINGS CONTAINING BINDERS WITH A TRACER. VISCOUS BINDERS WERE SPREAD ON HIGH-QUALITY SUPPORTS. 14 DIFFERENT TYPES OF EQUIPMENT WERE USED WHILE 4 SPREADING PRINCIPLES WERE FOLLOWED. ACCURATE DATA WERE OBTAINED WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF MEASUREMENTS WHICH WERE ACCURATELY LOCATED IN RELATION TO THE SPRAYBAR. IT WAS OBSERVED THAT IRREGULARITIES IN TRANSVERSE DISTRIBUTION WERE ALWAYS GREATER THAN THOSE IN LONGITUDINAL DISTRIBUTION. THIS METHOD FACILITATES THE SIMPLE DETAILED CHARACTERIZATION OF SURFACE DRESSINGS BY MEANS OF FIVE NUMBERS. THIS TECHNIQUE HAS ALSO THE ORIGINAL ADVANTAGE OF PERMITTING THE STUDY OF SURFACE DRESSINGS UNDER THE VERY CONDITIONS OF MANUFACTURE. WITH THE ABOVE METHOD IT IS THOUGHT POSSIBLE TO CONDUCT RESEARCH ON THE INDUSTRIAL SCALE, AND TO RATIONALIZE AND IMPROVE THE OUTPUT OF OBSERVATIONS. IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE TO STUDY OPERATIONS ON LARGE SITES OR TO OBSERVE THE WORK OF TEAMS ON ISOLATED SITES.
