COMBINED TORSION IN REINFORCED CONCRETE L-BEAMS WITH STIRRUPS
EXPLORATORY TESTS ON L-BEAMS WITH CLOSED-STIRRUP REINFORCEMENT AND SUBJECTED TO PURE TORSION, TO TORSION WITH MOMENT, AND TO COMBINED TORSION, SHEAR, AND MOMENT ARE REPORTED. STIRRUPS WERE FOUND TO BE EFFICIENT IN ADDING STRENGTH, BUT LARGE ROTATIONS WERE NECESSARY TO DEVELOP THE ADDED STRENGTH. WHERE LONGITUDINAL STEEL IS AMPLE, ERSOY'S CIRCULAR INTERACTION DIAGRAM BETWEEN TORSION AND SHEAR STILL SEEMS APPLICABLE WITH THE INCREASED STRENGTHS. THE INDICATION IS THAT PRESENT DESIGN PROCEDURES ARE CONSERVA- TIVE AS TO STRENGTH. /AUTHOR/
