IN PART 1 OF THE PROJECT EXTENSIVE MODEL STUDIES WERE UNDERTAKEN ON KRAINER WALLS WHICH PROVIDED VALUABLE INFORMATION ON THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THESE TYPES OF LATTICE STRUCTURE. CONSTRUCTION SITE MEASUREMENTS ARE TO BE UNDERTAKEN TO TEST THE VALIDITY OF THE FINDINGS FROM THE MODEL AND THE THEORIES DEVELOPED. THE EFFECT OF TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION AND DEGREE OF COMPACTION OF FILL AND BACKFILL OF THESE TYPES OF WALL IS ALSO TO BE STUDIED. THE OBJECT IS TO CONFIRM THE PREVIOUS MODEL TESTS AND TO WORK OUT PRACTICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF LATTICE RETAINING WALLS. IN PARTICULAR ANCHORED WALLS ARE TO BE EXAMINED. THESE ARE USED IN THE ALPS TO SECURE STEEP SLOPES AGAINST LANDSLIDES.
