STRADDLE, A TWIN-HULLED CARRIER SHIP WITH SEPARABLE CARGO UNITS
The proposed twin-hulled configuration extends from the carrier vessels aft end through about 9/10th of its length; the bow is of single-hull form. Four cargo units can be located in the well between the twin hulls. Particulars are given for a specimen carrier ship and cargo unit designs, based on a minimum intact hull breadth to suit a range of medium speed engines and a carrier well breadth and height capable of containing, at a variety of drafts, cargo units having acceptable independent stability characteristics. Three possible stowage levels of cargo units within the carrier well have been considered and jacking loads calculated for each.
