THEORY FOR THE COMBINED ACTION OF BENDING MOMENT AND SHEAR IN REINFORCED AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS

THE INFLUENCE OF BOND ON THE STRENGTH OF REINFORCED AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAMS WAS DESCRIBED. TEST RESULTS DESCRIBED SHOWED THAT THE PRESENCE OF BOND MIGHT INDUCE SHEAR FAILURE. ON THE BASIS OF THIS OBSERVATION A THEORY FOR PREDICTING THE SHEAR STRENGTH OF CONCRETE BEAMS WAS INTRODUCED. IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE SHEAR STRENGTH OF BEAMS WITHOUT WEB REINFORCEMENT MIGHT BE EXPRESSED AS A FUNCTION OF THE STRENGTH OF THE CRACK LAMELLAS, THE SHEAR SPAN, AND THE FLEXURAL CRACKING MOMENT.
