INFLUENCE OF A HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT OF THE GROUND ON FOUNDATIONS PERPENDICULAR TO THE DIRECTION OF THE DEFORMATIONS

THIS REPORT DESCRIBES TESTS CARRIED OUT TO DETERMINE THE INFLUENCE OF THE CREEP OF LOOSE SOIL ON TANGENTIAL FORCES IN FOUNDATION SLABS PERPENDICULAR TO THE DIRECTION OF THE DEFORMATIONS. THE AUTHOR RECALLS THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN A PREVIOUS STUDY CONDUCTED ON MODELS. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF IN-SITU TESTS ON TWO EXPERIMENTAL STRUCTURES BUILT OVER A COAL MINE. RESULTS SHOW THAT THE TANGENTIAL FORCES INCREASE ONLY UP TO A CERTAIN VALUE IN SPITE OF A LATER INCREASE IN THE HORIZONTAL DEFORMATIONS OF THE GROUND. DEFORMATIONS RESULTED IN LIMIT STATES. A MATHEMATICAL EQUATION FACILITATING THE DETERMINATION OF LIMIT TANGENTIAL STRESSES IS GIVEN IN THE CONCLUSION.
