NONUNIFORM TORSION OF COMPOSITE BEAMS
THE GENERAL EXPRESSIONS GOVERNING THE BEHAVIOR OF A BEAM OF COMPOSITE, OPEN, THIN-WALLED CROSS SECTION SUBJECTED TO NONUNIFORM TORSION ARE DEVELOPED. THE EXPRESSIONS ARE REWRITTEN IN SERIES FORM FOR THE CASE IN WHICH THE CROSS SECTION IS COMPOSED OF A SERIES OF FLAT PLATES OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS. NUMERICAL RESULTS ARE PRESENTED FOR A COMPOSITE TEE-SECTION CONSISTING OF A CONCRETE SLAB CONNECTED TO A BEAM. THESE RESULTS INDICATE A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE TORSIONAL RESISTANCE OF SUCH SECTIONS DUE TO COMPOSITE ACTION. EQUATIONS FOR DETERMINING THE TORSIONAL PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITE SECTIONS USED IN BUILDINGS AND BRIDGES ARE ALSO PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
