DETERMINATION OF STRESSES IN ASYMMETRIC STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS SUBJECTED TO DYNAMIC STRESSES
DETERMINACION DE ESFUERZOS EN CONJUNTOS ESTRUCTURALES DISIMETRICOS SOMETIDOS A SOLICITACION DINAMICA
WHEN A DYNAMIC LOAD IS APPLIED TO A STRUCTURAL SYSTEM, THE RIGIDITY CENTRE OF WHICH DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH THE CENTRE OF THE MASS, THERE OCCURS A PLANE PARALLEL DISPLACEMENT BETWEEN TWO CONSECUTIVE STOREYS AND A ROTATION ROUND THE RIGIDITY CENTRE OF THE SYSTEM. THIS ARTICLE STUDIES THIS PHENOMENON, WHICH IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE IN SEISMIC STRESSES, BY ASSIMILATING THE RELATIVE DEFORMATION BETWEEN THE TWO CONSECUTIVE STOREYS TO THE GENERAL PLANE MOVEMENT OF A RIGID SOLID AND BY DISTINGUISHING SHEAR STRESSES THAT APPEAR AT THE EXTREMITIES OF THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS FOLLOWING THE ROTATION-TRANSLATION DEFORMATION STUDIED. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF TORSION BY A THEORETICAL APPROACH, E.G. BY ASSIGNING THE ULTIMATE STRENGTH OF THE WHOLE STRUCTURE TO THE VERTICAL ELEMENTS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE BEHAVIOUR OF SEPARATING UNITS AND JOINTS MUST AT ALL TIMES BE CONSIDERED AS SIMILAR TO THE PREDICTED STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOUR SINCE THEY SUBSTANTIALLY MODIFY STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN THE HEADS OF THE PILLARS.
