TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF STEEL FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE

ASPECTOS TECNOLOGICOS DE ACEROS PARA HOMIGON ARMADO

THE GEOMETRIC AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS WHICH AFFECT THE USE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF STEEL, AS WELL AS THE INFLUENCE OF THE CONSTRUCTION ARRANGEMENTS ARE STUDIED. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF ARGENTINIAN STEELS, WHICH ARE CONTAINED IN THEIR OFFICIAL CERTIFICATES OF APPROVAL, ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE MINIMUM LIMIT SPECIFIED, AND THIS REQUIRES CAREFUL CONTROL BY MEANS OF IN-SITU OBSERVATIONS AND TESTS. THE VARIATION OF THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS FOLLOWING THE COLD WORKING OF STEEL IS NOTED. THE STEEL IS SUBJECTED TO DIFFERENT DEGREES OF TORSION, THEN TO TENSILE TESTS, HARDNESS AND FOLDING TESTS. THE EXTENSION PRODUCED DIMINISHES, THE LIMIT OF CREEP INCREASES AS WELL AS THE FAILURE TENSION AND THE ROCKWELL HARDNESS AND THERE ARE NO ANOMALIES IN THE FOLDING TEST. THE INCREASE IN THESE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS IS NOT ACCOMPANIED BY ANY PROPORTIONAL IMPROVEMENT IN ADHESION. AN INCREASE IN TEMPERATURE RESULTS IN A REDUCTION IN THE PROPERTIES OBTAINED, THE EFFECT VANISHING COMPLETELY AT 700 DEG C, WHICH NECESSITATES AN INCREASE IN THE COATING AND THE USE OF A WELD WITH A FILLER ELEMENT.
