CALCULATIONS OF STRESSES AND DISPLACEMENTS IN A LAYERED ELASTIC STRUCTURE
THE NOTE GIVES AN ANALYSIS OF STRESS, STRAIN AND DISPLACEMENT IN A GENERAL N-LAYERED IDEALLY-ELASTIC STRUCTURE (VIEWED AS AN IDEALISATION OF A ROAD), SUBJECTED TO AN AXIALLY-SYMMETRIC STATIONARY SURFACE LOADING. THE ANALYSIS LEDS TO AN EFFICICIENT METHOD OF COMPUTING RESULTS, IN WHICH THE WORK INCREASES ONLY PROPORTIONATELY TO THE NUMBER OF LAYERS. A COMPUTER PROGRAM BASED ON THE ANALYSIS DISCRIBED BRIEFLY. IT IS WRITTEN FOR AN I.C.T. ATLAS COMPUTER, AND TAKES ABOUT 0.3 SECONDS PER LAYER, AS WRITTEN, IT IS LIMITED TO A TOTAL OF 24 LAYERS, BUT THIS LIMIT IS ARBITRARY. /AUTHOR/
