A PRECAST BEAM CONNECTION DESIGNED FOR SHEAR AND AXIAL LOAD
TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE BEHAVIOR, ULTIMATE CAPACITY AND DESIGN CRITERIA FOR A SIMPLIFIED CONNECTION FOR PRECAST CONCRETE BEAMS. THE TESTS SIMULATED THE AXIAL FORCE WHICH IS DEVELOPED IN A BEAM DUE TO SHRINKAGE OR TEMPERATURE CHANGES OR TO WIND OR EARTHQUAKE LOADS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE BEHAVIOR OF THE CONNECTION WAS SATISFACTORY AT BOTH SERVICE LOAD AND ULTIMATE LOAD, THAT IT CAN BE SIMPLY DESIGNED, AND APPEARS TO BE ECONOMICAL WHEN COMPARED TO CONNECTIONS PRESENTLY BEING USED. /AUTHOR/
