ON THE USE OF THE TASTOGRAPH FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF SETTLEMENT IN DYNAMIC LOAD BEARING CAPACITY TESTS

IN DYNAMIC BEARING CAPACITY TESTS ONLY LIMITED TIME IS AVAILABLE FOR THE REGISTRATION OF THE DEFORMATION OCCURRING. AS THESE VALUES ARE IMPORTANT FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE LOAD BEARING CAPACITY, A SUITABLE MEASURING DEVICE WAS SOUGHT. THE LIGHT TESTING DEVICE IS SUITABLE ONLY FOR DYNAMIC BEARING CAPACITY COEFFICIENTS BETWEEN 15 N/MM2 AND 100 N/MM2 (150 AND 1000 KP/CM2), BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED SETTLEMENT WHICH RESULTS FROM THE RELATION BETWEEN THE HIGH STIFFNESS AND THE LAYER BEING TESTED AND THE RELATIVELY SMALL IMPULSE FORCE. WITH THE TASTOGRAPH IT IS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE AMPLITUDE, THE FREQUENCY AND THE VIBRATION PATTERN OF A VIBRATING SYSTEM. A PLUNGER WITH A SPRING LINKED TO THE LOADING PLATE, WHICH IS MAGNIFIED BY A LEVER, REGISTERS THE SETTLEMENTS ON PAPER. TO DATE NO SINGLE METHOD EXISTS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE VERTICAL DEFORMATION. TESTS WITH THE EQUIPMENT ARE DESCRIBED AND METHODS OF FURTHER DEVELOPMENT ARE INDICATED.
