BEARING CAPACITY OF PRESTRESSED CANTILEVERED GIRDERS WITHOUT BOND, TAKING ACCOUNT OF CONDITIONS DURING THE CANTILEVER CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD BRIDGES
TRAGVERHALTEN VON VORGESPANNTEN KRAGTRAEGERN OHNE VERBUND UNTER BESONDERER BERUECKSICHTIGUNG DER BEIM FREIVORBAU VON STRASSENBRUECKEN GEGEBENEN BEDINGUNGEN
THE SYSTEM TO BE EXAMINED OCCURS FREQUENTLY IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF MASSIVE BRIDGES, ESPECIALLY IF THE BRIDGES ARE BUILT BY MEANS OF THE CANTILEVER METHOD. AN ACCIDENT HAS SHOWN THAT BEARING CAPACITY DURING CONSTRUCTION MAY BE UNDERESTIMATED, AND THE CAUSES OF THIS DECREASE IN SAFETY COMPARED WITH THAT OF THE FINAL STRUCTURE ARE TO BE SOUGHT IN THE FACT THAT (1) THE STATIC SYSTEM DURING CONSTRUCTION IS USUALLY A CANTILEVER ARM, WITH WHICH THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF A REDISTRIBUTION OF LOAD; (2) VERY OFTEN A WORKING JOINT HAS TO BE INCORPORATED AT THE MOST HIGHLY STRESSED POINT; (3) IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE OF RAPID PROGRESS IN BUILDING OR BECAUSE OF THE SEASON, TO PRODUCE A BOND WITH THE CONCRETE FOR THOSE PRESTRESSED STEEL INSERTS WHICH CROSS THE WORKING JOINT; (4) BECAUSE OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE, STRESSES AT THE ROOT OF THE CANTILEVER ARM DURING CONSTRUCTION ARE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN IN THE FINAL STRUCTURE WHEN IT IS SUBJECTED TO PERMANENT LOADS AND TRAFFIC LOADS. IN PARTICULAR THE CONDITION CITED UNDER (3) CAN ONLY BE DETERMINED VERY APPROXIMATELY WITH AVAILABLE KNOWLEDGE. THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO CREATE, UNDER TEST CONDITIONS WHICH REPRESENT THOSE ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE, PRINCIPLES FOR ESTABLISHING THE SAFETY WHICH ACTUALLY EXISTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION CONDITIONS DESCRIBED.
