ELASTIC STABILITY OF TAPERED BEAM-COLUMNS
A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR DETERMINING THE CRITICAL VALUES OF AXIAL LOAD AND END MOMENT IN THE ELASTIC RANGE FOR TAPERED WF BEAM-COLUMNS IS DERIVED. THE MODEL IS DEVELOPED BY MEANS OF AN EQUILIBRIUM ANALYSIS OF THE BUCKLED DEFLECTED SHAPE OF THE BEAM-COLUMN. SOLUTIONS FOR THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL ARE OBTAINED BY MEANS OF FINITE DIFFERENCES. THE RESULTS OF THIS ANALYSIS ARE PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF AN INTERACTION EQUATION. THE USE OF THIS INTERACTION EQUATION FOR DETERMINING THE CRITICAL LOADS IS DEMONSTRATED BY A DESIGN EXAMPLE. /ASCE/
