THE FIRST PART OF THIS STUDY IS DEVOTED TO A STOCK-TAKING: TEACHING AIMS, LEARNING CONTENT AND TEACHING METHODS HAVE BEEN ANALYSED TO SEE HOW FAR THEY CONTRIBUTE TO THE EDUCATION OF ATTITUDES AND TO PRACTICAL DRIVER TRAINING. IN ADDITION, A CHECK HAS BEEN MADE TO SEE WHETHER THESE MEASURES FORM PART OF THE PERMANENT CURRICULUM OF THE SCHOOL, IN WHAT ORGANISATIONAL FORMS THEY ARE OFFERED, WHAT LEARNING CONTROLS ARE APPLIED AND WHETHER AND WHAT QUALIFICATIONS CAN BE ACQUIRED. THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS ARE COVERED: THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE CONFERENCE OF THE MINISTERS OF CULTURE ON 5.7.72 TO HAVE TRAFFIC EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS; GUIDELINES AND SYLLABUSES LAID DOWN BY THE MINISTERS OF CULTURE FOR THE STATES AND THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC FOR TRAFFIC EDUCATION; THE PROJECT "CAR IN THE SCHOOL YARD"; SIMILAR MODELS IN THE USA, FRANCE, GREAT BRITAIN, CANADA, SWITZERLAND AND WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AND IN PARTICULAR THE SYLLABUS FOR DRIVER EDUCATION AND TRAFFIC SAFETY EDUCATION, PUBLISHED BY THE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION IN LOUISIANA, USA, IN 1971. THE SECOND PART OF THE STUDY HANDLES THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR AN INTRODUCTION TO MOTORISED ROAD TRAFFIC IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM OF THE GFR. THIS PART COVERS THE FOLLOWING AREAS: AIMS, CONTENT AND ORGANISATIONAL FORMS OF TRAFFIC EDUCATION AT SECONDARY LEVEL, ITS INTRODUCTION AT SECONDARY STAGE II, POSSIBLE AIMS AND CONTENTS OF A PRE-DRIVING COURSE, ORGANISATIONAL FORMS, FINANCING, INCENTIVES AND JUSTIFICATIONS FOR A PRE-DRIVING COURSE.
