TORSION IN SECTIONS WITH OPEN AND CLOSED PARTS
A CONCISE METHOD IS PRESENTED FOR LOCATING THE SHEAR CENTER AND INVESTIGATING TORSIONAL STRESSES IN BEAMS THAT ARE FREE TO WARP AND WITH CROSS SECTIONS CONSISTING OF BOTH OPEN AND CLOSED PARTS. THE APPLICATION OF THE METHOD IS ILLUSTRATED IN DETAIL BY AN EXAMPLE PROBLEM WITH BEAM CROSS SECTIONS WHICH MAY BE FOUND IN CERTAIN CONCRETE BOX GIRDER BRIDGES. /ASCE/
