THE CONTRIBUTION OF LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS TO THE STATIC STRENGTH OF PLATE GIRDERS
RESULTS ARE SUMMARIZED OF A RESEARCH PROJECT ON THE BEHAVIOR OF LONGITUDINALLY STIFFENED PLATE GIRDERS SUBJECTED TO EITHER PURE BENDING OR HIGH SHEAR. ANALYTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE INCREASE IN THE STATIC STRENGTH OF PLATE GIRDERS DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS. REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONING AND PROPORTIONING LONGITUDINAL STIFFENERS ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
