WEARING SURFACES FOR ORTHOTROPIC PLATE BRIDGE DECKS
EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE OF WEARING SURFACE PERFORMANCE IS REVIEWED AND A SUMMARY OF SURFACING PRACTICES IS TABLED. THE CONSTRUCTION DETAILS FOR THE PORT MANN BRIDGE ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OF THE POPLAR STREET EXPERIMENTAL BRIDGE. POSSIBLE REASONS FOR DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE ARE CITED. THE DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN CRITERIA WHICH WOULD CONSIDER THE EFFECTS OF DECK DEFORMATIONS ON WEARING SURFACE BEHAVIOUR IS NEEDED. /CGRA/
