RESTRAINTS AGAINST ELASTIC LATERAL BUCKLING
A THEORETICAL INVESTIGATION IS GIVEN OF THE INFLUENCE OF TORSIONAL AND LATERAL RESTRAINTS ON THE ELASTIC CRITICAL LOAD OF A CENTRALLY-LOADED, SIMPLY-SUPPORTED BEAM BUCKLING LATERALLY. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY ARE PRESENTED GRAPHICALLY. TO SIMPLIFY APPRECIATION OF THE RESULTS, A CONSERVATIVE APPROXIMATION IS MADE FOR THE RESTRAINT CONDITIONS NECESSARY TO DEVELOP THE MAXIMUM LOAD CAPACITY OF THE ELASTIC BEAM FOR THE TYPES OF RESTRAINT CONSIDERED. EXPRESSIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THE CONSERVATIVE RESTRAINT CONDITIONS AND THE MAXIMUM CRITICAL LOAD. /RRL/A/
