IN THE FULL SCALE MODEL TESTS ON PRESTRESSED MEMBER FRICTION WHICH WERE UNDERTAKEN IN AACHEN, A COEFFICIENT OF CLAMPING WAS OBTAINED FOR PRESTRESSED BUNDLES OF ROUNDED, SMOOTH STEELS WHICH WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN THE THEORETICAL VALUE DETERMINED ON THE BASIS OF GEOMETRIC RELATIONS. PRESTRESSED BUNDLES OF FLAT, RIBBED PRESTRESSING STEELS, ON WHICH NO THEORETICAL WORK HAD BEEN UNDERTAKEN HITHERTO, PRODUCED SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER CLAMPING COEFFICIENTS THAN COMPARABLE PRESTRESSED BUNDLES OF SMOOTH, ROUNDED STEELS. THE OBJECT OF THE RESEARCH IS TO CLARIFY THE MAGNITUDE AND TYPE OF CLAMPING STRESSES FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF PRESTRESSING MEMBERS.
