THE EFFECT OF THE INTENSIFICATION FACTORS OF CAR BRAKING POWER INTENSIFIERS IS BEING INVESTIGATED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF SERVICE COMFORT, SERVICEABILITY AND FAILURE BEHAVIOUR. THE EVALUATION CRITERIA ARE BRAKING DISTANCE AND DRIVER INTERVIEWS. TEST DRIVES ARE BEING UNDERTAKEN IN A CAR IN WHICH THE INTEISIFICATION EQUIPMENT CAN BE ACTIVATED OR NOT ACTIVATED. ON A DRY ROAD THE INTENSIFICATION FACTOR DOES NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT BRAKING DISTANCE. ON A WET ROAD A FLAT MINIMUM AT FOOT POWER/DECELERATION RATIOS OF ABOUT 21 ... 27 N/M/S HIGH 2 OCCURS, WHICH IN THE TEST VEHICLE CORRESPONDS TO AN INTENSIFICATION FACTOR OF 3 ... 3.8. NON-ACTIVATION OF THE INTENSIFIER ON A DRY ROAD LEADS TO CONSIDERABLE INCREASES IN BRAKING DISTANCE WHICH BECOME PROGRESSIVELY LONGER WITH THE INTENSIFICATION FACTOR (FOR EXAMPLE 65 PERCENT LONGER BRAKING DISTANCE WITH INTENSIFICATION FACTOR 11.4). THE SAME IS TRUE ON A WET ROAD FOR INTENSIFICATION FACTORS OVER ABOUT 5. THE RESEARCH SHOWS THAT FACTORS OVER ABOUT 4 SHOULD BE AVOIDED WITH SINGLE CIRCUIT INTENSIFIERS.
