PROGRESS REPORT ON LOAD DEFLECTION TESTS DEALING WITH LENGTH AND SIZE OF DOWELS

A LOAD DEFLECTION TEST MACHINE AND PROCEDURE IS DEVELOPED FOR USE IN STUDYING THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND EFFICIENCY OF DOWELS OF VARYING LENGTH AND DIAMETER. LOAD DEFLECTION CHARACTERISTICS ARE PRESENTED FOR DOWELS OF THREE SIZES, 3/4, 1 AND 1/1/4 IN., AND LENGTHS IN EACH SIZE OF 10, 15, 20, 24, AND 30 IN. DATA ON RESIDUAL DEFLECTION AND JOINT RIGIDITY ARE ALSO INCLUDED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT A RECOGNIZED TEST PROCEDURE FOR EVALUATING LOAD TRANSFER DEVICES IS NEEDED. /AUTHOR/
