PRACTICAL CALCULATION OF THE DEFLECTIONS OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS

LE CALCUL PRATIQUE DES FLECHES DES ELEMENTS HYPERSTATIQUES EN BETON ARME (SUITE)

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A RAPID METHOD OF CALCULATING THE ELASTIC DEFLECTION OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE MEMBERS (CONTINUOUS GIRDERS, FRAMES) SUBJECTED TO ORDINARY LOADS (UNIFORM LOAD, LOCALIZED LOAD OR COMBINATION OF BOTH). THIS METHOD USES CHARTS. IN THE CASE OF REINFORCED CONCRETE ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT THE CONVENTIONAL FORMULA (CONSTANT INERTIA MOMENT) IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO CALCULATE THE DEFLECTION: THE CALCULATION MUST BE MADE FOR A FISSURED SECTION IF RESULTS ARE TO AGREE WITH REALITY. THE METHOD RECOMMENDED IS THAT OF THE COMITE EUROPEEN DU BETON (CEB) ADAPTED TO THE CASE OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE STRUCTURES IF NECESSARY. THIS METHOD USES A CONVENTIONAL FORMULA WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE FISSURATION MOMENT AND INERTIA MOMENT FOR A FISSURED SECTION. THE DEFLECTIONS CALCULATED BY THIS METHOD FOR ORDINARY CONCRETE AND LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURAL CONCRETE WILL BE COMPARED.
