A DIGEST OF AVAILABLE INFORMATION SHOWS AMONG OTHER IMPORTANT EFFECTS THAT REINFORCEMENT (AFTER INITIAL CRACKING HAS OCCURRED) HOLDS FRACTURED SURFACES TOGETHER, RETAINS SMOOTHNESS, RESISTS BREAKAGE, AND REDUCES RAVELING AT CRACK EDGES. REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE BASES PREVENTS ESCAPE OF SAND CUSHIONS UNDER BRICK SURFACES AND PROMOTES SMOOTHNESS OF BITUMINOUS TOPS.
