REPORT OF INVESTIGATION OF THE ECONOMIC VALUE OF REINFORCEMENT IN CONCRETE ROADS

PART II OF THE FIFTH PROCEEDINGS IS DEVOTED TO THE FINAL REPORT OF THIS INVESTIGATION. THE FINDINGS ARE BASED UPON: (1) SCRUTINY OF CONSTRUCTION RECORDS, OFFICE PLANS, CONTRACTS AND COSTS OF MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION, (2) SURVEY OF PLAIN AND REINFORCED ROADS SUBJECTED TO SIMILAR CONDITIONS, (3) SURVEY OF ROADS CONTAINING BOTH PLAIN AND REINFORCED SECTIONS AND (4) CORRELATION OF THE RESULTS OF THIS SURVEY WITH PREVIOUS SURVEYS AND RESEARCH WORK. THE SURVEY COVERED THE GENERAL INSPECTION OF 5,500 MILES AND DETAILED INSPECTION OF 2,000 MILES OF HIGHWAYS IN 26 STATES. AS A GENERAL CONCLUSION STEEL REINFORCEMENT WAS FOUND TO BE BENEFICIAL.
