BEARING CAPACITY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COMPRESSION MEMBERS UNDER SKEW BENDING WITH AXIAL FORCE

THE REPORT DEALS WITH THE LOAD-BEARING CAPACITY OF SHORT-TIME-LOADED SLENDER REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS UNDER BIAXIAL BENDING AND NORMAL FORCE. DEFORMATIONS IN LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION OF COLUMNS, DEFLECTIONS AND ROTATIONS OF CROSS-SECTIONS WERE MEASURED IN ADDITION TO THE ULTIMATE LOAD. THE EFFECTS OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TEST PARAMETERS ON THE BEARING AND DEFORMATION BEHAVIOUR ARE POINTED OUT. ADDITIONAL TESTS ON REINFORCED AND PLAIN CONCRETE PRISMS GIVE SOME PARTICULARS OF THE MOMENT CURVATURE RELATIONS AND THE STIFFNESS OF CROSS SECTIONS. THE RESULTS OF TENTATIVE EXPERIMENTS ON SLENDER CONCRETE COLUMNS AS WELL AS PRISMS UNDER PERMANENT LOAD ARE DESCRIBED. THE SUBJECT OF THE THEORETICAL STUDIES IS TO DEVELOP A DESIGN METHOD FOR SLENDER COLUMNS UNDER BIAXIAL BENDING AND NORMAL FORCE. THE PROCEDURE IS BASED ON CALCULATING EQUIVALENT VALUES FOR THE ECCENTRICITY OF THE LONGITUDINAL FORCE AND FOR THE COLUMN SLENDERNESS BY TRANSFORMATION INTO UNIAXIAL BENDING. BY MEANS OF THESE EQUIVALENT VALUES THE DESIGN PROCEDURE CAN BE MADE IN THE SAME WAY AS WITH UNIAXIAL BENDING, I.E. BY MAKING USE OF THE SAME AUXILIARY MEANS FOR DESIGN OR TABLES OF LOAD-BEARING VALUES. THE RESULTS OF THE PROPOSED APPROXIMATE SOLUTION ARE IN GOOD CONFORMITY WITH THE THEORETICAL EXACT SOLUTION AND WITH THE TEST RESULTS.
