CALCULATION OF STREET LIGHTING LUMINANCE

CALCULO DE LA LUMINANCIA PARA EL ALUMBRADO PUBLICO

THE QUALITY OF A STREET LIGHTING INSTALLATION IS DETERMINED BY THE AVERAGE LUMINANCE ON THE CARRIAGEWAY, THE LUMINANCE EVENNESS, AND THE GLARE CAUSED BY LANTERNS. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF METHODS OF CALCULATING THE AVERAGE LUMINANCE AND LUMINANCE EVENNESS OF THE CARRIAGEWAY FROM THE INSTALLATION DATA. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE CALCULATION METHOD USING PHOTOMETRIC DATA SHEET SUPPLIED FOR EACH LANTERN WITH A VIEW TO DETERMINING THE APPROPRIATE VALUES AS EXACTLY AND RAPIDLY AS POSSIBLE. THE LUMINANCE OF A CARRIAGEWAY DEPENDS ON THE REFLECTING PROPERTIES OF THE SURFACE OF THE ROAD, WHICH CAN BE DEFINED FOR DRY ROADS WITH SUFFICIENT ACCURACY USING THE AVERAGE LUMINANCE COEFFICIENT AND PARTICULARITY FACTOR. DIFFERENT METHODS OF CALCULATING LUMINANCE AT ONE POINT OF THE CARRIAGEWAY WITH A VIEW TO DETERMINING LUMINANCE UNIFORMITY ARE ANALYZED. EXAMPLES OF CALCULATION ARE GIVEN.
