REFLECTION BEHAVIOUR OF ROAD SURFACES

THIS WORK CONTAINS DATA ON THE REFLECTION CHARACTERISTICS OF 20 WEARING COURSES WHICH HAVE DIFFERENT MINERAL TYPES, COMPOSITION OF MATERIALS, LARGEST GRAIN SIZE AND TYPE OF SAND. THE QUALITATIVE INFLUENCE OF THESE ENGINEERING PARAMETERS ON THE REFLECTION CHARACTERISTICS IS PROVED, WITH 3 DIFFERENT WEAR CONDITIONS STUDIED IN ADDITION TO 5 DIFFERENT CONDITIONS OF MOISTURE. IN ADDITION THE INFLUENCE OF THE OBSERVATION ANGLE ON REFLECTION IS INVESTIGATED. A NEW TYPE OF REFLECTION MEASURING DEVICE AND A WEAR SIMULATOR WERE DEVELOPED FOR THE INVESTIGATION. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ENGINEERING AND LIGHTING-TECHNOLOGICAL VALUES ON THE BASIS OF THE 20 WEARING COURSES INVESTIGATED - MORE DETAILED MEASUREMENTS ARE NECESSARY. COMPARISONS WITH OTHER INVESTIGATIONS ARE DIFFICULT, SINCE ONLY A FEW MEASUREMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT WITH THE INTERNATIONALLY STIPULATED ANGLE OF OBSERVATION OF 1 DEGREE INCLINATION.
