A MATHEMATICAL SIMULATION OF HYSTERETIC SLIDING FRICTION
A NEW METHOD OF ANALYSING THE STRESSES IN A STRESS-STRAIN HYSTERETIC MATERIAL, SUBJECTED TO LARGE DEFORMATION, IS DESCRIBED. IT IS USED TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF THE SHARPNESS OF SIMULATED ROAD ASPERITIES ON THE COEFFICIENT OF HYSTERETIC SLIDING FRICTION OF A RUBBER SLIDER. THE THEORETICAL FINDINGS ARE COMPARED WITH LABORATORY TESTS USING A BRITISH PORTABLE SKID RESISTANCE TESTER. DISRUPTIVE STRESSES IN THE RUBBER ARE ALSO ANALYSED. /AUTHOR/
