TEST INSTALLATIONS OF SILICA SAND RESURFACING
THE METHOD USED BY THE PORT OF NEW YORK AUTHORITY TO DETERMINE WHEN A PAVEMENT SHOULD BE RESURFACED, THE PROBLEMS INVOLVED, AND THE MATERIALS USED IS DISCUSSED. SPECIAL PROBLEMS ARISE WHEN BRIDGES, TUNNELS AND IN SOME CASES AIRPORTS, ARE TO BE RESURFACED. IN TUNNELS THESE PROBLEMS INCLUDE HEADROOM AND DRAINAGE, IN BRIDGES THEY INCLUDE ADDITIONAL WEIGHT AND EXPANSION JOINTS, WHILE ON AIRPORTS THE PRINCIPAL CAUSE FOR CONCERN IS ONE OF ECONOMICS. THE SOLUTION OF SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS INDICATED THE NEED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW MATERIALS. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE NEW MATERIALS TESTED, THEIR COSTS, ANTICIPATED LIFE, AND ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES. /AUTHOR/
