COMPUTATION OF TRUE HIGHWAY ELEVATIONS FROM AN ELEVATION PROFILOMETER RECORD

THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE MATHEMATICAL DEVELOPMENT OF AND THE PROCEDURE FOR THE CONVERSION OF THE MODIFIED PAVEMENT PROFILE RECORDED BY SYMMETRICAL ELEVATION PROFILOMETERS TO A TRUE PAVEMENT PROFILE. THE ADVANTAGES OF USING A TRUE PAVEMENT PROFILE AS A BASIS FOR PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF PAVEMENTS ARE DISCUSSED AND EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED. THE FEASIBILITY OF EXTENDING THIS PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN A CONTINUOUS LOAD-DEFLECTION PROFILE AND THE MODIFICATION OF PRESENTLY AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT TO ACCOMPLISH THIS OBJECTIVE ARE DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
