THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS PAVEMENT TEST TRACK- A TOOL FOR EVALUATING HIGHWAY PAVEMENTS
THE DEMAND FOR NEW HIGHWAYS WITH LIMITED FUNDS PROHIBITS THE INCLUSION OF A LARGE FACTOR OF SAFETY IN DESIGN. THERE- FORE A RIGOROUS ANALYSIS OF THE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE, MATERIAL AND THICKNESS IS BEING UNDERTAKEN WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS PAVEMENT TEST TRACK WHICH ALLOWS CONTROLLED CONDITIONS WITH APPROXIMATE SERVICE CONDITIONS OF SIMULATED TRAFFIC LOADS AT A HIGH FREQUENCY. THE TEST TRACK FACILITIES AND TEST PROGRAMS ARE DESCRIBED.
