THICKNESS OF SURFACE AND BASE COURSES FOR FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS
A METHOD IS DESCRIBED FOR DETERMINING THE THICKNESS OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS COMPRISING AN ASPHALT SURFACE AND ONE OR MORE AGGREGATE BASES ON A GIVEN SUBGRADE. DATA REQUIRED ARE: (1) SUBGRADE BEARING STRENGTH UNDER SATURATION CONDITIONS AND DENSITY EXPECTED TO PREVAIL; (2) BEARING STRENGTH OF SOILS OR AGGREGATE FOR USE IN THE BASE OR SUBBASE; (3) SHEAR STRENGTH OF THE ASPHALT SURFACE; AND (4) THE WHEEL LOADS AND TIRE PRESSURES TO BE CARRIED. /AUTHOR/
