SPACING OF DOWELS
A THEORETICAL DISCUSSION IS MADE OF THE SPACING OF DOWELS USED FOR TRANSMITTING VERTICAL FORCES ACROSS JOINTS IN CONCRETE PAVEMENTS. IN THE CASE OF A SEVEN INCH SLAB IT WAS FOUND THAT DOWELS TWO FEET APART PRODUCE A MATERIAL REDUCTION OF THE CRITICAL STRESS BUT NOT IF THEY ARE THREE FEET APART.
