A RESEARCH ON RIDING QUALITY OF VEHICLES ON EXPANSION JOINTS

THE RAPID ADVANCEMENT OF EXPRESSWAYS MADE RECENTLY HAS NECESSITATED THE STUDY ON THE RUNNING BEHAVIOR OF VEHICLES ON ROADS. THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE RESULTS OF A RESEARCH CARRIED OUT TO OBSERVE THE RIDING QUALITY OF VEHICLES ON EXPANSION JOINTS THAT AFFECTS DRIVING COMFORTABILITY ON URBAN EXPRESSWAYS OF VIADUCT STRUCTURE. FIRST, SEVERAL TESTS, SUCH AS MEASUREMENTS OF THE ROUGHNESS AT JOINTS, ACCELERATION RATE BY A TEST CAR EQUIPPED WITH ACCELERATION AND COMFORTABILITY METERS, AND HUMAN FEELING AGAINST SHOCK, WERE CARRIED OUT ON THE EXISTING EXPANSION JOINTS. SECOND, SIMILAR TESTS AGAINST ARTIFICIAL OBSTACLES WERE PERFORMED. BY THESE RESULTS, THE RELATION BETWEEN THE SMOOTHNESS OF ROAD SURFACE AND ACCELERATION RATE AS WELL AS THAT OF FEELING AND ACCELERATION RATE WERE CLARIFIED, AND A STANDARD FOR THE ROAD SURFACE AT THE EXPANSION JOINT WAS ESTABLISHED. IN THIS WRITING, RESULTS OF VARIOUS BASIC EXPERIMENTS ON RELATIONS BETWEEN HEIGHT OF OBSTACLE AND IMPACT, SURFACE SPACING AND IMPACT AS WELL AS HARDNESS OF OBSTACLES AND IMPACT ARE DESCRIBED. /AUTHOR/
