PLATE BEARING TESTS AND FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN IN FLORIDA
PLATE BEARING TESTS PERFORMED IN FLORIDA ARE REVIEWED IN THE FOLLOWING PHASES OF RESEARCH: (1) PLATE SIZE AND ZONE OF STRESS, (2) VARIATION OF BEARING VALUES, (3) SINGLE LAYER RELATIONSHIPS, (4) SUBGRADE MODULUS AS RELATED TO PLATE SIZE, (5) TWO-LAYER THEORY RELATIONSHIPS, (6) THICKNESS OF WEARING SURFACE, AND (7) REPETITIONAL LOADS. THESE TESTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED SINCE 1958 IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN RESEARCH PROGRAM. TEST RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN TABLES AND FIGURES.
