SYSTEMS OF PAVEMENT DESIGN AND ANALYSIS

AN ANALYTICAL SYSTEM IS ADVANCED FOR THE DESIGN OF NEW PAVEMENT BASED ON (1) INTRODUCTION OF VEHICLE RESPONSE AS AN IMPORTANT DESIGN PARAMETER, (2) THE INTEGRATION OF DESIGN THEORIES GOVERNING 'RIGID' AND 'FLEXIBLE' PAVEMENTS, AND (3) THE TOLERANCE OF SURFACE DEFORMATION AND STRESS INTENSITY IN THE PAVEMENT AS WELL AS IN THE SUBGRADE. THE SYSTEM COMPLETELY DEFIES TRADITIONAL DESIGN PRACTICE, BUT REPRESENTS THE COLLECTIVE WORK OF THEORETICIANS, PRACTICAL ENGINEERS, MATERIAL SPECIALISTS, CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS AND MAINTENANCE CREWS. AN EVEN MORE IMPORTANT FACTOR IS THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE PAVEMENT USER WHO ACCEPTS THE LEVEL OF VEHICLE RESPONSE AND THE ONE WHO PAYS THE COST OF CONSTRUCTION. /AUTHOR/
