RIGID PAVEMENTS - ROMANIA
A REVIEW IS PRESENTED OF SOME ASPECTS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE EXECUTION AND USE OF HIGHWAYS AND AERODROME RUNWAYS IN CONCRETE IN ROMANIA. IN GENERAL, CONCRETE SURFACING, THE COST OF WHICH IS HIGHER THAN SURFACING IN ASPHALT, IS EXECUTED IN LESSER PROPORTION. FOUNDATIONS EXECUTED OF GRANULAR MATERIALS ON FROST SUSCEPTIBLE SOILS WITH STRONG CONTRACTION JOINTS DEMONSTRATED SERIOUS DISADVANTAGES TO CONCRETE SURFACINGS. IT IS INTENDED TO REPLACE SPECIALLY MANUFACTURED PAPER BY POLYTHENE SHEETS BECAUSE OF THE ADVANTAGES IN COMBATTING FREEZING AND THAWING. CONCRETE SURFACING IS EXECUTED IN TWO LAYERS OF RESISTANCE AND WEAR, A TOTAL THICKNESS VARYING BETWEEN 18-20 CM, USING BOTH AS MUCH PORTLAND AS METALLURGICAL CEMENT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SLABS. JOINT CONSTRUCTION AND THE PRODUCTS OF SILTING UP AND INTRODUCTION OF AIR ENTRAINMENT AND PLASTICIZING AGENTS ARE REVIEWED. SOME TRIALS ON THE REPAIR OF CONCRETE SURFACINGS, USING EPOXY RESINS AND POLYVINYL ACETATES ARE DESCRIBED. A RESUME IS PRESENTED ON THE RESULTS OF RESEARCHES AND EXPERIMENTAL TRIALS TO DETERMINE THE BEARING CAPACITY OF CERTAIN AERODROME RUNWAYS AND ROADWAYS ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR CONSOLIDATION. /AUTHOR/
