GENERAL HIGHWAY MATTERS - HUNGARY
THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE COURSES OF PAVEMENTS AND THAT OF THE SUB-GRADE ARE STUDIED TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE HUNGARIAN CLIMATIC AND HYDROLOGIC CONDITIONS, AND THE DIFFERENT STRAIN-DISTRIBUTION EFFECTS OF STRUCTURAL COURSES WITH DIFFERENT QUALITIES. THE PAVEMENT WITH EQUIVALENT THICKNESS IS DESIGNED SO THAT THE COEFFICIENTS OF THE GREATEST PERMISSIBLE ELASTIC DEFORMATION OF THE PAVEMENT, WITH REGARD TO THE PROSPECTIVE TRAFFIC LOADING, THE TECHNICAL EQUIVALENTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL COURSES AND THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE SUB-GRADE ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. IN THE COURSE OF RECONSTRUCTION OF EXISTING PAVEMENTS, THE METHOD OF DESIGN IS THE SAME. EXPERIENCES HAS CONFIRMED THAT GREAT IMPORTANCE SHOULD BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE SYSTEMATIC CONTROL OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE FORMATION AND OF THE INDIVIDUAL COURSES OF PAVEMENTS DURING CONSTRUCTION. THE CONTROL OF BEARING CAPACITY DURING CONSTRUCTION IS CARRIED OUT BY DEFLECTION MEASUREMENT AND THE PERMISSIBLE DEFLECTIONS OF THE INDIVIDUAL COURSES SHOWN ON A DIAGRAM. THE METHOD OF DISC DEFLECTION MEASUREMENT COMBINES THE ADVANTAGES OF THE DISC AND OF THE CONVENTIONAL DEFLECTION MEASUREMENT AND IS SUITABLE FOR THE QUICK EXECUTION OF A SERIES OF CONTROL MEASUREMENTS ON THE FORMATION OR ON THE GRANULAR SUBBASE. THE EVENNESS OF THE PAVEMENT SURFACE IS CONTROLLED SYSTEMATICALLY. THE ROUGHNESS OF THE SURFACE OF ASPHALT PAVEMENTS HAS INCREASING IMPORTANCE PROPORTIONAL TO THE INCREASING SPEED OF THE MOTOR-VEHICLE TRAFFIC. FOR THIS PURPOSE, ASPHALT PAVEMENT DESIGN CONSIDERS: (1) THE LOW CONTENT OF BINDER, (2) A BINDER WITH RELATIVELY HIGH VISCOSITY, (3) A LARGE CONTENT OF PORES OF AGGREGATE GRADING, AND (4) THE CUBIC-FORM, WEAR-RESISTANT CHIPPINGS. THE RATE OF COMPLETION AND THE BEARING CAPACITY OF PAVEMENTS ARE EMPHASIZED AS FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY.
