TOTAL COST ADVANTAGES OF PALLET TRANSPORTATION
A physical distribution management study by Fred Olsen Interocean Line, considering the interrelation of transportation and distribution costs, came to the conclusion that costs are lower for palletized units loaded by fork lift trucks through ship sideports than for containers. Comparative figures are given for ship building costs, costs of cargo handling equipment and terminal facilities, administrative and other expenses, and time spent in port.
