CONTROL OF OUTDOOR ADVERTISING: FEDERAL LAW AND STANDARDS
THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ACT OF 1958 PROVIDED FOR PROMULGATION OF NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR OUTDOOR ADVERTISING, AND THESE WERE ISSUED IN 1958 AND 1960. NEITHER THE LAW NOR THE STANDARDS CONTROLS OUTDOOR ADVERTISING BUT ENCOURAGES THE STATES TO DO SO. THE MANNER OF COOPERATION BETWEEN THE STATES AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS ILLUSTRATED BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND.
