REPORT OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE HIGHWAY OFFICIALS AND THE HIGHWAY RESEARCH BOARD

HIGHWAY EROSION CONTROL RESEARCH PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY ARE DISCUSSED. OUT OF APROXIMATELY 150,000 MILES OF IMPROVED HIGHWAYS ON THE FEDERAL AID SYSTEM ONLY ABOUT 5,000 MILES HAD INTENSIVE ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT. UTILIZATION OF RELIEF LABOR WAS SUGGESTED. MORE CONSIDERATION TO LANDSCAPE ADVANTAGES WAS STRESSED, TOGETHER WITH THE ACQUISITION, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF WAYSIDE AREAS AT STRATEGIC LOCATIONS, AND TO THE PROTECTION OF HIGHWAY INVESTMENT AND CONSERVATION OF LAND VALUES ADJACENT TO THE HIGHWAYS.
