A RAPID METHOD OF COMPUTING AREAL RAINFALL
A POLYNOMIAL SURFACE IS FITTED TO THE RECORDED RAINFALL FOR A GIVEN TIME PERIOD. THIS POLYNOMIAL IS INTEGRATED OVER THE AREA OF INTEREST. THE RESULT IS A SET OF WEIGHTS FOR EACH GAUGE WHICH, WHEN MULTIPLIED BY THE OBSERVED RAINFALL AT EACH GAUGE GIVE THE TOTAL VOLUME OF RAINFALL ON THE AREA. ONCE THE WEIGHTS HAVE BEEN DETERMINED FOR A GIVEN GAUGE NETWORK AND AREA THE METHOD IS SUITABLE FOR HAND COMPUTATION. /AUTHOR/
